Wonder Woman

I read this today - an article by Michael Medved from USA Today about why movies starring women as action stars flop: the claim he makes is that "Public rejection of such fare reflects the deep-seated refusal to accept trendy notions that women match men in brute and violent tendencies."

Of course, the movies he uses as proof are pieces of trash - Stealth, Elektra, and Catwoman. Stealth even has two male cast members backing up Jessica Biel - Jamie Foxx and Josh Lucas. Why not mention Fantastic Four, which just has an extra male protagonist? I guess the one hundred and twenty million more dollars Fantastic Four made over Stealth (Box office totals are found in the left sidebar on those Rotten Tomatoes pages) would kinda kill his message.

He mentions but glosses over the success of Kill Bill, Tomb Raider, and Mr and Mrs Smith. Even though Tomb Raider got poor reviews, it made a ton of money simply by NOT BEING ABSOLUTE CRAP like the three bombs. All of this just makes me wonder - why even bother writing the article?

Older and Wiser

Older: My birthday was on the 14th. I am now twenty-four.
Wiser: On October 22nd, the University of Waterloo will be giving me a piece of paper which will state that I am a Bachelor of Mathematics, Honours Computer Science.

All this really means is that I am looking for a job - income is my friend. There is little to report on that front, beyond some promising leads. I'll post when that pays off, unless the lottery tickets pay off first, in which case I'll be too busy playing with paper airplanes made of thousand-dollar bills.
